Ills Cousecratlon as Bishop of - the Diocese oTCast Carolina Impressive Services at St James Church Distinguish ed Divines in Attendance i Large Concourse of People. Soon after 10 o'clock this morning the different avenues leading to St. James' Church began to bo doited with people who were wending their way thither to attend the solemn and impressive cere monies attending the consecration of Bishop-elect Alfred Augustin Watson as Bishop of East Carolina. The morn ing was beautiful in the sunshine and glory of the flowering Spring time; the atmosphere was fragrant with the rich" perfume of many scented flowers. and was musical with the songs of Spring birds, and everything invited humanity to devotional reflection As the hour of 11 o'clock approached the throng in the streets became more rtense and as they concentrated at the portals of St. James' it became'a stream of humanity flowing into the church Policemen were stationed at the door to preserve order and prevent confus ion, and attentive and polite ushers stood in readiness in the vestibul to sup ply the needed seats, a duty which they Dsrlormcd without the least celay or noise, and so expeditiously that nearly every teat in the house was nileu in a very brief time. Chairs had been placed in the several aisles, but care had been taken to avoid the suffocation and dis tress which would be caused Dy an over-crowded house, by the issuance of iiCKets, without which no one wa3 en titled to a seat. Ry this wise precau tion the house was filled, but not to the discomfort of any one. AE a fe.w minutes after 11 o'clock the full, rich tones of the organ, under the skillful hands of Mr. E- Thorpe, pealed forth a march, announcing tho entrance of the Bishops and Clergy, who walked up the centre aislo to the desk, which, with its surroundings, had been taste fully decorated with evergreens and flowers for the occasion. After they bad become sealed and the organ bad ceased, the services were opened by the reading of the Collects and Command ments by Bishop Neeley, of Maine. These were followed by the reading of the Epistle by -Bishop Seymour,, of Springfield, 1.1.; reading of the Gospel by Bishop Neeley, ot Maine, and the Creed, by Bishop Seymour, of Spring field, 111.; then by a hymn by the choir. Bishop Lyman, of North Carolina, then preached the sermon for the occasion, which was a logical, forceful and im pressive discourse; and in those portions where he alluded to the duties and re sponsibilities ot the Biskop-elect and to his own heartfelt sorrow at. the necessi ty which demanded a division of the Diocese, it was deeply pathet ic and affecting. It was listened to throughout with the most patient, earnest and interested m . m attention. At the conclusion ot the sermon a hymn was sung by tho choir, after which the Bishop-elect wa3 pre- sented by Bishop Howe, of South Caro lina, and Bishop Randolph, of irginia. The certificate of Election and the Canonical Testimonial were then read by Rev. Nathaniel Harding, Secretary of the Diocesan Convention. Tho Certificate of Consent of Standing Com mittecs was read by the President of the Standing Committee, and the Cer lificatc of Consent of the Uistops was read by Rev. Dr. N. C. Hughes, cf Chocowinity, N. C. The Promise Conformity was then made by the Bishop elect.
